Windstream Internet plans and prices
Windstream’s no-contract fiber plans are a good bargain for the price, starting under $40 for 300 Mbps, which will keep a smart home with several internet users powered seamlessly. If you aren’t in Kinetic’s fiber service area, Windstream offers DSL, dial-up and cable in some areas, but fiber is definitely a better value if you can get it. The starting price of $39.99/mo. for DSL only offers speeds up to 100 Mbps, while the fiber plan at the same price offers 300 Mbps.
We rated Kinetic by Windstream a 3.8 out of 5. It scored above average for having no data caps and solid customer service but lower for availability, as it serves only about 3% of the country.
Kinetic by Windstream offers internet deals with a variety of connection types. Fiber is the fastest, but cable internet is also quick and reliable. However, some households will only have access to Kinetic’s DSL or dial-up plans, which provide speeds up to just 100 Mbps. Windstream’s prices are below the average for 300 Mbps and 1 GB plans, which makes them a better value. The equipment rental fee is $10.99/mo. for copper customers or $4.99/mo. for fiber customers. You can avoid this fee by providing your own modem and router.
The cheapest internet plan from Kinetic by Windstream is 300 Mbps plans at $39.99/mo. That price tag is the same for the cable/DSL/dial-up 100 Mbps plans, too, so if you can get Windstream’s 300 Mbps plan in fiber, that’s your best bet as it’s a lot of speed for well under the average of $70/mo. Fiber is the fastest available home Wi-Fi connection and ensures you will stay connected without slowing down your tasks.
Most homes don’t need a GB of internet speed. However, if you live in a well-connected smart home and have people in your house who game, work from home or attend classes online simultaneously, Kinetic’s 1 GB plan for under $70/mo. is a great value. Similar plans from competitors start at nearly $90.
If you run a business from your smart home while juggling a house full of gamers and those who work and learn from home, a 2 GB plan might be necessary. It is slightly pricey at $99.99/mo. but will keep your business running smoothly while your large household of internet users are online.
Kinetic by Windstream offers fiber and cable connections, which are preferable to the DSL or dial-up options. If you are in a fiber-serviceable area, we suggest choosing a fiber plan. Fiber has symmetrical upload and download speeds, which means it can bypass any internet traffic jams and send and receive data at the same fast rate. Windstream’s cable is the next best internet option, with the same pricing as fiber. It does have slower upload speeds, which can impede performance if you’re in a video meeting or if you’re trying to upload a large file while simultaneously doing other online tasks.
Windstream does not have a TV service like some cable providers, but you have the option of adding YouTube TV or DIRECTV to your internet plan. There are no cost savings, however, when you bundle these services with a Kinetic internet plan.
Windstream’s service area overlaps several other internet service providers, including cable/fiber hybrid providers like Optimum and Spectrum. DSL provider CenturyLink and fixed wireless home internet provider T-Mobile also usually cover similar areas. Pricing is pretty similar between all the types and providers, starting around $40–$50 monthly.
Kinetic by Windstream covers parts of 18 states, including Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
About 3% of the U.S. has access to Windstream services, including just over 1% of fiber availability within that population. DSL and cable are the main internet connection types for Windstream.
